I just had to write more about aromatherapy!

Hi all. I got such a great response on yesterday's blog entry about Aromatherapy and the brand Aromatherapy Associates that I just had to write more about it today!

Is there an aromatherapy that is good for relaxation? I am having trouble winding down in the evenings.

Oh yes! In fact, relaxation is my favorite use for aromatherapy. Check out this blend. Chamomile, Sandalwood and Vertivert!!!

It's probably good for that just-before-bed bath. Am I right?

Do these contain essential oils? I heard that essential oils enter the blood stream. Is this a good or bad thing? Is there a risk of absorbing too much?

Yes...essential oils are used within aromatherapy. And yes, they can enter the bloodstream...such as with massage. Usually, aromatherapy is effective by stimulating the olfactory nerve which controls certain part(s) of the brain (if memory serves) but it is also used in massage oils, etc. that do indeed enter the blood stream topically. Therefore, there would be many instances where it could be unsafe...such as certain essential oils are contraindicated in pregnancy and for people with other conditions such as seizure disorders and so on. Therefore, always use with caution and as indicated and be aware of any health issues where it shouldn't be used. Having said that, aromatherapy is an awesome tool/resource when used correctly and safely. Hope this helps. Smile

Definitely good info! It sounds like essential oils can be beneficial but you need to be careful and do your homework.

Yes, if you're pregnant or you have certain medical conditions, it's probably a good idea to talk to your doctor.

I really believe in essential oils but admit I don't understand that much about them. I just know what they do for my skin!
