Fantastic Fringe - The 70s Re-emerge in Style

They say that every fashion trend comes back, and the Spring and Summer 2014 fashions shows resurrected one classic 70s style--fringe! This season, fringe is back in a big way, showing up on all types of pieces. But how can you wear this trend without looking like you're wearing a 70s disco or 20s flapper costume? Follow these seven tips to look stylish in fringe.
1. Skirts and dresses that are finished with fringe are a great way to experiment with shorter hemlines while still getting some coverage for your legs. Pair fringed hemlines with a wedge or high heel to lengthen the look of your legs for a sexy look.
2. The fringed leather jacket has an edgy look inspired by biker style. For a fashionable ensemble, slip one over a very feminine outfit like a summer sundress on a cool evening or a floral blouse and capris. The contrast between a romantic outfit and the rugged leather jacket is incredibly chic.
3. A fringed hobo bag puts a Boho finishing touch on an ensemble. You can wear this style of bag to contrast with a traditional, preppy piece like a shirt dress or go for a full-on bohemian chic effect by slipping one over your shoulder with a maxi dress and an arm full of bangle bracelets.
4. You can find a number of on-trend dresses with fringe confined to certain areas, such as the neckline, the sleeves or the waist area.
These looks can be a clever way to provide coverage for trouble zones, provided the fringe is long enough to travel past the area that you want to minimize. For example, if you have an inverted pear figure and want to slenderize your bust-line, you would want to choose a dress with fringe at the collar that is long enough to travel to your stomach rather than stopping right at the bottom of your bust.
5. A dress with all-over fringe is an ultra-glamorous look for evening, but to look your best in a style like this you need a proper fit.
If the dress is too loose, the fringe will overwhelm your figure. A too-tight fit will cause the fringe to bunch up and not have that slinky, flowing look.
6. For a sophisticated look, try a blazer with a fringed hemline.
These styles look best with a simple skirt, such as a pencil or straight fit. For a simple, chic style, wear matching colors on the top or bottom. To stand out, color block your outfit with a blazer in one hue and a skirt in another.
7. Fringe isn't just for the street!
You can find fringe on bikinis and bathing suits for Summer 2014. Like fringed dresses, fringed swimwear provides coverage and gives a suit a flirty look. Follow the same rules for selecting a fringe swimsuit as you would a fringed dress.
These are just some of the many ways that you can wear fringe. Mix and match pieces from your wardrobe with new fringed apparel and accessories and see what style ideas you can create.
