Dress with Color to Manage your Emotions
You do not have to be a color psychologist to know that color can make an impact on your mood. It can deepen and strengthen what you are already feeling, or alter your mood significantly. Once you understand how different colors affect you, it is possible to use your clothing to help you feel more positive, confident, relaxed or mindful and sensitive.
Positive
Yellow and orange will give your spirits a lift and move you towards a positive mood. Wearing a daffodil yellow jacket or dress can make you more optimistic, leaving you looking on the bright side of life. Donning an orange T-shirt, or incorporating orange into your outfit in another way, will make you more enthusiastic.
Confident
Wearing red clothing can make you feel sexier, and more dynamic. Red will also help you stand out from the crowd; however, too much red can result in anger. If you already feel worked-up and anxious, but want to experience more confidence, consider wearing a calming color, such as blue, and teaming it with a red accessory.
Relaxed
Blue is a relaxing color. When worn it can help you feel less agitated and more tranquil. You may associate blue with freedom and a release of tension. Different shades of blue throughout the spectrum are useful, and you can combine several in order to gain the most benefit.
Mindful
Green is a grounding color. It is stable, natural and reassuring. Wearing green can help make you feel fresh and safe. Green is also associated with health, and is a good color to wear if you are feeling unwell.
Reassuring
Brown is useful if you want to reassure other people, and convey warm feelings and generosity. Wear green and brown at the same time if you are tackling environmental issues.
Sensitive
Light purple and pale blue can help you feel more sensitive and gentle. Deep purple is more likely to make you feel sad. As children often like purple a lot, you may find it helps you to wear it if you are a teacher, parent or nanny.
You can incorporate color into your wardrobe via accessories, shoes and clothes. Scarves, belts, and even colored hair-clips can be utilized. Thinking about the color choices you make regarding what you wear will help you manage your emotions.
